Any subject, any form, to 50 lines.

Rules & Guidelines.

  1. All work must be original, typewritten on 8-½ x 11 white paper. Poetry must be single-spaced; all other genres must be double-spaced.

  2. Submit two copies of each entry.

  3. Number and title of category must appear in upper left corner of first page of each entry. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON ENTRIES.

  4. On the cover sheet include your name, address, email and/or phone number followed by a list of category numbers, category names, and titles of entries. Please indicate whether or not you are a member of Green River Writers.

  5. No submission may be entered in more than one category.

  6. No more than three submissions per category.

  7. No work will be published or returned; keep copies.

  8. Since winning entries are not published, all rights remain with the author.

  9. Entry fees:
    Grand prize categories - $3 each entry for GRW members; $5 each entry for nonmembers

    All other categories - $2 each entry or $12 maximum for GRW members; $3 each entry or $18 maximum for non-members
    Over payments will be considered as donations to GRW and will not be returned.

Short fiction to 1000 words. Must have all the elements of story. Make every word count.

Prose or poetry (rhymed/metered or free verse) written for children 12 years old and younger, 500 words or less.

The Greek word persona means mask. In a persona poem, written in the first person, the writer imagines that he/she is an object, an animal, another person. The writer dons a mask and writes from another's point of view.
