Submission Guidelines

  1. All work must be original, typewritten on 8 x 11 white paper. Poetry may be singlespaced;
    all other genres must be double-spaced.
  2. Submit two (2) copies of each entry.
  3. Number and title of category must appear in upper left corner of first page of each entry. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON ENTRIES.
  4. On a cover sheet your name, address, email and/or phone number followed by a list of category numbers, category names and titles of entries.

  1. No submission may be entered in more than one category.
  2. No more than 3 submissions per category.
  3. No work will be published or returned; keep copies.
  4. Winners will be posted on the GRW website (www.greenriverwriters.org).
  5. Entry fees:
    • Grand prize categories - $10 each entry for non-members; $8 each entry for GRW members
    • All other adult categories - $5 each entry for non-members; $3 each entry for GRW members
  6. Make check or money order payable to Green River Writers, Inc. Mail fee and entries to:

Short fiction to 2000 words.

Submit plot synopsis of no more than 3 pages and complete first chapter.

4. Green River Lean - Fiction
Short short fiction or flash fiction to 250 words, must have all elements of story. Make every word count.

Short stories to 8000 words, any subject.

7. "Best in Show" - Poetry
Show your stuff. Pick your best poem and submit; open to all subjects.  One year GRW membership to first place winner in addition to prize money.

8. Hespeler Memorial Award - Poetry
any style or form, line length of 32 lines including spaces.
Subject: anything on Human Relationship with Nature.

Sonnet, any standard form, (must be 14 lines, iambic pentameter), any subject.

Tell it Slant - a monosyllabic challenge - Poetry
Any subject. No line limit. Any format. Rhyming or non-rhyming BUT please no “greeting card” verse. Contractions are good (don't, won't, etc.) Hyphens– Not good. Don’t split polysyllabic words like ad ven ture and count it as three words.
